Press Release
As part of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 celebrations, the Embassy of India in Cairo organized a special felicitation ceremony on Monday, 20 July 2026, to honour Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy, recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga 2025, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to promoting yoga in Egypt.
The ceremony celebrated Ms. Fahmy's achievement as the first and, to date, the only Egyptian to receive this prestigious global honour, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga in Egypt and the strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Egypt.
In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, congratulated Ms. Fahmy on her remarkable achievement and highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister's Yoga Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals and organizations from India and abroad to the promotion and development of yoga. He encouraged yoga practitioners and institutions in Egypt to participate in future editions of the award and emphasized yoga's role in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and inner harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy reflected on her yoga journey of more than three decades, describing yoga as a life-changing practice that transformed her life. She expressed gratitude to her teachers and mentors and reaffirmed her commitment to promoting yoga's universal values of health, balance, and harmony.
The programme also included the felicitation of the winners of the Embassy's "Your Favourite Photo of You Doing Yoga" competition. A special highlight of the event was the participation of 20 children from Donzi Art Academy, who presented six beautifully crafted portraits of the Ambassador to H.E. Mr. Suresh K. Reddy as a gesture of friendship and appreciation. The event concluded with yoga demonstrations and cultural performances celebrating India's rich heritage.
The Embassy of India congratulates Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy on this distinguished recognition and appreciates the continued support of all participants and partners in promoting yoga and strengthening the cultural ties between India and Egypt.
