Celebration of the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026in Cairo

The Embassy of India, Cairo celebrated the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 in Cairo, under this year’s theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.”

The celebration brought together a diverse gathering of guests, academics and practitioners, reflecting the growing interest in Ayurveda and India’s rich traditional knowledge and holistic approach to health and well-being.

On the occasion, Ambassador Suresh K Reddy highlighted the significance of Ayurveda as a holistic system of health, emphasising its focus on preventive care and its potential role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases. He underscored the enduring relevance of Ayurveda’s emphasis on balanced living, wellness and preventive health in addressing contemporary health challenges.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alia ElGendy, Head of the Complementary Medicine Department at the National Research Centre, Egypt, highlighted the important role of complementary medicine in promoting holistic approaches to health and well-being. She underscored the value of sharing knowledge and experiences in this field and expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation between India and Egypt in complementary and traditional medicine, including through greater academic, professional and institutional exchanges.

Ayurveda expert Dr. Jumana Kapadia shared valuable insights into the rich history and fundamental principles of Ayurveda, highlighting its holistic approach to health and well-being. She also led an engaging question-and-answer session, providing participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Ayurveda and its relevance in promoting healthy and balanced living.

As part of the celebrations, the Embassy organised a special virtual session by Dr. Alka Mishra, Head, Department of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and Coordinator, Panchakarma Centre, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. Dr. Mishra delivered an insightful session on “Panchakarma: Detox Your Body Through Ayurveda,” introducing participants to the traditional Ayurvedic therapeutic framework and its approach to prevention, rejuvenation and well-being.

The session was attended by professors and experts from the Complementary Medicine Department of the National Research Centre, Egypt, and Galala University, along with other participants.

The interaction provided an opportunity for experts from India and Egypt to exchange perspectives on Ayurveda and complementary medicine and to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation in the field. It also highlighted the continuing relevance of traditional systems of health and wellness in contemporary discussions on preventive care and holistic well-being.

The celebration underscored Ayurveda’s emphasis on harmony between body, mind and spirit, preventive care, healthy living and holistic wellness, while highlighting the potential for deeper India-Egypt cooperation in traditional and complementary medicine.

The Embassy of India remains committed to promoting greater awareness of India’s traditional knowledge systems and strengthening people-to-people, academic and institutional ties between India and Egypt.
