About Us India by the Nile

The Centre organizes India By the Nile (IBN) – A festival of India in Egypt celebrated annualy in Egypt. India by the Nile brings the essence of India through classical, contemporary, performing and visual arts, food and popular culture in a language which amalgamates diverse cultural and artistic strands. The festival is produced by Delhi based M/S Teamwork Arts and supported by ICCR and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

The 7th edition of IBN was organized from 5th March till 17th March 2019 in 3 different cities of Egypt. IBN Press Conference on 5th March 2019 was attended by 70 representatives from both print and electronic media. The opening dinner hosted by sponsors and partners of the festival was attended by number of dignitaries including H.E. Mr. Hatem Tajeddin, Chief Protocol Offices, Government of Egypt. A Food Festival “Food Fiesta by Acclaimed Indian Chef, Picu was organized from 7-12 March 2019, at Semiramis InterContinental Hotel, Cairo.

H.E. Rahul Kulshreshth, Ambassador of India to Egypt & Prof. Fathy Abdel Wahab, Head, Cultural Development Fund Sector, Ministry of Culture, Egypt, inaugurated the Festival at Hanager Cinema, Cairo Opera House on 12/3/19. Four films in Cairo and two films in Port Said were screened. Bollywood Workshop by Gilles, was conducted in venues in different cities of Egypt. Yoga Sessions on Wellness helped in improving and providing Indian ways of healthcare for all age groups. Yoga workshops were conducted in Cairo, Alexandria and Portsaid.

Images of Truth: Staged by the Ishara Puppet Theatre was on informative and adaptive experience on the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. The show was performed at Al Sawy Cultural Wheel on 9/3/19 and at Pyramids International Schools, Cairo on 10/3/19.

Indian Musical event Percussion 3G: three generations of a gifted family under Grammy Award Winner Shri Vikku Vinayakram performed on 12/3/19 at Sayed Darwish Theatre Alexandria, 15/3/19 at Cultural Palace, Port Said and 16/3/19 at Al-Gomhuria Theatre, Cairo. Contemporary Folk Music, led by Harpreet performed at Al Sawy Cultural Wheel on 8/3/19, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria on 9/3/19 and at Port Said on 15/3/19. The Indian Classical Odissi dance “Bishwas” by Srjan was an interplay of philosophical ideas, infused with images from Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism. The troupe performed at Al Gomhuria Theatre, Cairo on 10/3/19, and at Sayed Darwish Theatre, Alexandria on 11/3/19

India-Egypt business seminar held at Semiramis InterContinental, Cairo and Alexandria to boost the business ties between India and Egypt and to discuss the new avenues available. “Know India Tourism Seminar” was held at Grand Nile Hotel on 17th March 2019.

The Festival was extensively covered by almost all the major print and electronic media houses in Egypt. Apart from reporting daily events with great importance, some of them also published/broadcasted special stories and exclusive interview with Ambassadors, Director (MACIC), etc. on the occasion. IBN 2019 was attended by almost ten thousand people of different nationalities staying in Egypt.
