About Us International Day of Yoga

Yoga has been accepted as an effective practice for a healthy lifestyle across the globe. The United Nations declaration of 21st June as the International Day of Yoga has helped the people in the world to come together and celebrate and experience the happiness of this ancient practice. The Embassy of India in collaboration with Egyptian government has been celebrating International Day of Yoga (IDY) since 2015 by organizing several events in Cairo and other cities in Egypt.

In the run-up to the 6th International Day of Yoga, the Embassy conducted various activities such as ‘Yoga in Egypt Photography Contest’, ‘My Yoga Story Campaign’, Online Yoga Workshops for Corporates, Media Persons and Diplomatic Community , ‘My Yoga My Life contest’ and Free online course for Freshers. All these activities were held virtually due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

The main event of IDY 2020 was also organized through multiple online platforms. Along with the exercises and postures performed as part of IDY, the message of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the opening remarks of the Ambassador were also streamed online. Around 700 practitioners followed the event in real time through multiple social media platforms
