Yoga has been accepted as an effective practice for a healthy lifestyle across the globe. The United Nations declaration of 21st June as the International Day of Yoga has helped the people in the world to come together and celebrate and experience the happiness of this ancient practice. The Embassy of India in collaboration with Egyptian government has been celebrating International Day of Yoga (IDY) since 2015 by organizing several events in Cairo and other cities in Egypt.

    In a run-up to the 5th International Day of Yoga the Embassy observed the “Month of Yoga” from 20th May till 23rd June 2019. As part of this, Yoga sessions were held at various public places in Cairo and Port Said. Yoga Flash Mobs were also held in Ismailia and Minya Governerates. Separate yoga sessions were held for corporates and diplomats under the theme of “Yoga for stress management”. A “Yoga Photography Contest” was also held as part of promotional events.

    On 20 June 2019, 5th IDY was celebrated at El-Horriya Park in Cairo. IDY was also celebrated at Ismailia and Minya on 21 and 23 June, respectively.
