About Us International Day of Yoga

International Day of Yoga

The 11th edition of the International Day of Yoga organized by the Maulana Azad Center for Indian Culture, Embassy of India, Cairo on 21 June 2025 at Al-Horreya Park, Zamalek, Cairo. This year’s celebration was marked by a series of curtain raiser Yoga events across Egypt, including in Port Said, Ismailia, Fayoum, Sohag, Assiut, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.  The Yoga events were attended by thousands of Egyptian Yoga enthusiasts and friends of India.

As a lead-up to the 11th IDY, the Mission organized vibrant “Yoga Marathons” in two of Egypt’s iconic locations, on the scenic streets of Zamalek in Cairo and along the serene Mediterranean coastline at Stanley Beach in Alexandria, on 29 June and 30 June 2025, respectively. The events drew enthusiastic participation from Egyptians of all ages and backgrounds, including youth, Yoga practitioners, and fitness enthusiasts. Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy inaugurated the marathon, emphasizing Yoga's significance in promoting physical and mental wellness and in fostering stronger people-to-people ties between India and Egypt.

In a remarkable continuation of our cultural outreach and based on the overwhelming enthusiasm from previous years, the Mission once again organized a unique “Yoga at Iconic Place” Contest that invited young Egyptians to blend the ancient practice of Yoga with the timeless beauty of their own historical landmarks. The response was truly inspiring. A total of 96 entries were received from across the country, with participants performing Yoga at some of Egypt’s most iconic and awe-inspiring sites, including the 4,500-year-old Pyramids of Giza, the scenic Mediterranean coastline, the historic Citadel, the mighty Nile River, and the sacred Mount Mousa.
