About Us Indian Festivals

MACIC celebrated several Indian festivals from time to time. Some of the festival celebrated are as detailed below:

(i) Makar Sankranti was celebrated by designing colorful rangolis and kite-flying on 14th January 2022.

(ii) Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), Embassy of India in Cairo, organized a Cycle Rally as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)/India@75 celebrations on 25th March 2022. The Rally was flagged off by Ambassador of India to Egypt, H.E. Ajit Gupte from Embassy of India in Cairo, Zamalek. The route of the cycle rally covered the periphery of Zamalek Island. The event also intended to spread the message of adopting a healthy lifestyle and importance of exercise in daily life. The event attracted more than 100 cyclists from Embassy of India in Cairo and cycling clubs.

(iii) India Culture month was organized at Grand Nile Tower Hotel from 10-30 August 2022. Through out the duration several cultural activities were organized to promote India and Indian Culture, Tourism, Cinema, Art & Craft, Yoga, Cuisines etc. Independence Day reception was also hosted at the hotel which was attended by the Ambassadors/Diplomats based in Cairo, prominent personalities, businessmen, senior officials etc.

(iv) MACIC and Embassy of India, Cairo organized “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign on 11 August 2022. As part of the campaign Ambassador of India to Egypt Mr Ajit Gupte handed over Indian Flags to the members of Indian community in Egypt. Patriotic Songs and painting competitions were also held during August 2022 as part of Independence Day celebrations.

(v) Diwali was also celebrated at MACIC on 24 October 2022 with yoga students and others. Traditional Indian lamps were lightened by the participants and Special Yoga & Meditation sessions conducted.

(vi) As part of the celebrations of National Unity Day and Birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel a series of the events were organized 31 October 2022 which included floral tributes and forming of human chain at the Embassy. A Unity Race and India Culture evening were also organized at the Arab Contractors Club, Cairo.
