Celebration of International Day of Yoga 2021

Since the adoption of 21st of June as International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), Embassy of India in Cairo, has been conducting International Day of Yoga every year in different cities of Egypt.

This year, for the celebration of International Day of Yoga 2021, two events (offline) were organized with the following of social distancing and other Covid-19 guidelines. The first event was a “Curtain Raiser” on 19th June, 2021 at India House, which was attended by Diplomats and other eminent personalities from Egypt like film celebrities Merna Walid and Dina Abdallah, youth icon Rania Yehia and artist Mohammed Abla. In his speech at the event, Ambassador of India, Ajit Gupte, highlighted various aspects and significance of Yoga which was followed by practicing of Common Yoga Protocol.

The second and the main event was organized at The Children's Civilization and Creativity Center (The Child Museum), Heliopolis, Cairo, on 21st June, 2021 which was attended by over 200 people. It was organized by MACIC, Embassy of India in Cairo, in association with Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Egyptian General Sports Federation for All, The Child Museum and Egyptian Kabaddi Federation.

Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s speech for International Day of Yoga, dubbed in Arabic was shown to the audience which was followed by addresses of Ambassador of India to Egypt, Ajit Gupte and the Chief Guest of the event, Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth, Azza El Dory. Subsequently, Common Yoga Protocol was practiced.

The event was attended by officials in the Embassy of India, Dr. Nabil Helmy, Chairman of Heliopolis Association, Dr. Emad Al Banany, Chairman of the Egyptian General Sports Federation for All and Dr. Osama Abdel Wareth, Director General of the Child Museum.
