About Us Roundtables and Seminars

Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) organizes roundtable discussions and seminars regularly, involving youth, academia, culture lovers and the civil society in stimulating discussions on issues of mutual interest and sharing of experiences. Some recent events are listed below:

  1. MACIC organized a seminar on “Re- reading Maulana Azad through His Writings” to mark the 131st Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Dr. Rania Fawzi, Head of Dept. of Oriental Languages, ASU, Dr. Mohamed Uzeir, Lecturer in Urdu, ASU, Prof. Galal El Hefnawy, Head of the Dept. of Oriental Languages, Cairo University and Dr. Abdul Majeed, Lecturer in Urdu at MACIC were the speakers. 

  2. A seminar on “Arts in India and Egypt” was organised in Cooperation with Helwan University at Faculty of Arts Education on 17/10/19. Dr. Amal Mostafa, Head of the Dept. of Criticism and Dr. Emad Abdel Naby, Professor of Criticism, Helwan University were the key speakers.

  3. Dr. Liyaqath Ali, Director MACIC was invited to participate as a Guest of Honour in the International Seminar conducted by Tanta University in Sharm El Sheikh Governorate from February 25-27, 2019, on Role of ‘Humanities and Social Sciences in confronting Terrorism and Extremism’. The Seminar was attended by scholars from more than 10 countries. Director’s Speech concentrated on the great legacy of Indian Culture based on Ahimsa and peaceful coexistence.

  4. As part of the celebrations of Gandhi[at]150, MACIC organized 5 academic programmes. The keynote addresses in three of these events, were delivered by Ms. Shobhana Radhakrishna, Chief Functionary, Gandhian Forum for Ethical Corporate Governance, India. The first one was at Cairo University on Feb. 17, 2019, the second one at Ain Shams University on Feb. 18, 2019 and the third one, which was named as "Gandhi Katha" (a presentation on Mahatma Gandhi’s Life and Message - in Hindi) at MACIC on Feb. 19, 2019.  Two other lectures were delivered by Dr. Liyaqath Ali, Director MACIC - the first one on “The Life & Message of Mahatma Gandhi as Reflected in the Eulogy of Ahmed Shawky,” at Faculty of Arts, Cairo University on 14/10/19 and the second one on “Mahatma Gandhi – Life and Message” at El Menia University, El Menia, on 21/10/19

  5. MACIC in cooperation with Cairo University organized a Seminar on 'Contemporary English Literature in India', on 12/12/19. Prof. Rangarajan, former HOD of English, Maharaja’s College, Kerala, India, Dr. Maha El Said, Professor of American Studies, Cairo University and Dr. Liyaqath Ali, Director, MACIC, participated.

  6. Webinar on “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development”:- To mark the “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development,” announced by the UN, MACIC organized a webinar on 21st May 2020. Eminent Speakers who attended the webinar include Mr. David Scalmani, Director, Italian Cultural Institute, Mr. Yang Sangkeun, Director, Korean Cultural Centre, Mr. Mohammed El Sawy, Chairman, El Sawy Culture Wheel and Ms. Anju Singh, Teacher of Indian Culture, MACIC. Dr. Liyaqath Ali, Director, MACIC, moderated the webinar.

  7. A Symposium on “Egypt-India Cultural Relations: was organized by Supreme Council of Culture (of Egypt) with Embassy of India on 25 August 2021. Ambassador and prominent Egyptian Professors/Scholars highlighted deeply entrenched cultural links between India and Egypt. Dr. Mohammed Hegazy, former Amb. Of Egypt to India and other speaker highlighted commonalities between both civilization and praised India for being an example of “Unity in Diversity” and tolerance.
