Kathak Sandhya - a mesmerizing evening of Indian classical dance

The Embassy of India in Cairo is delighted to announce Kathak Sandhya — an enchanting cultural evening dedicated to Kathak, one of India’s most revered classical dance traditions. This special event reflects the growing appreciation for Indian performing arts in Egypt and celebrates the deepening cultural ties between India and Egypt.

Kathak, one of the eight major classical dance forms of India, traces its roots to the ancient storytelling tradition of the Kathakars — itinerant bards of North India who brought mythological tales to life through expressive movement and rhythm. Over centuries, Kathak evolved from devotional performances in temples into a refined court art under the patronage of Mughal and Rajput rulers. Known for its graceful spins, rhythmic footwork, expressive gestures, and nuanced storytelling, Kathak continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Kathak Sandhya will feature a vibrant stage performance by an accomplished Teacher of Indian Culture and the talented students of the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) in Cairo. Through traditional and contemporary pieces, the performers will bring to life stories from Indian mythology and folklore, offering a compelling display of Kathak’s spiritual depth, technical finesse, and cultural richness.
