10th Ayurveda Day Celebrated in Cairo

The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrated the 10th Ayurveda Day on 23 September 2025 with great enthusiasm, in collaboration with academic and research institutions. A series of events were organized to highlight the significance of Ayurveda, India’s ancient and holistic system of medicine, and its growing role in global health and wellbeing.

This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” emphasized the importance of Ayurveda not only in promoting individual health but also in supporting sustainable living and planetary wellbeing.

As part of the celebrations, Ambassador of India to Egypt, H.E. Suresh K Reddy, joined Dr. Mohamed ElShenawi, President of Galala National University,  Dr. Alia ElGendy, Head of Complementary Medicine Department, National Research Center,  and professors from the National Research Institute, Galala National University and other Egyptian universities. The interactions focused on the relevance of traditional medicine systems in modern healthcare and explored avenues for further collaboration in the field of Ayurveda between India and Egypt.

A virtual session was also organized, led by renowned Ayurveda experts from India, Dr. Preeti Chhabra and Dr. Rinky Thakur. They delivered presentations on the therapeutic aspects and treatment modalities of Ayurveda, while underlining its significance for human health and the environment. A special session on Panchakarma therapy was also presented highlighting preventive and curative benefits of Ayurveda.

In addition, an exhibition on Ayurveda showcased Ayurvedic herbs and their role in maintaining health, along with Ayurvedic medicines and their application in the treatment of various illnesses. The exhibition attracted keen interest from participants and helped spread awareness about Ayurveda’s holistic and natural approach to healthcare.

The Ayurveda Day celebrations in Cairo reaffirmed the global significance of Ayurveda as a time-tested system of medicine that promotes harmony of body, mind, and spirit while offering sustainable solutions to the challenges of modern healthcare. The events also highlighted the shared commitment of India and Egypt to strengthening cooperation in the field of traditional medicine.
